NYC Marathon | Tate Confidential Ep 339
The Only Way to Get Rich Is by Trying to Get Rich
There’s a blunt truth most people avoid: wealth rarely happens by accident. The idea that “the only way to get rich is by trying to get rich” might sound obvious, but it carries a deeper message, intention matters more than wishful thinking.
Many people say they want financial success, yet their daily actions tell a different story. They stick to routines that maintain stability but never create growth. Trying to get rich means stepping outside that comfort zone. It means making conscious decisions to increase your income, build assets, and think long-term.
Trying doesn’t necessarily mean reckless risk-taking or chasing every new opportunity. It means being deliberate. It could look like learning a high-income skill, starting a side business, investing consistently, or simply managing money with more discipline than the average person. The key is direction—moving toward wealth, not just talking about it.
Of course, effort alone doesn’t guarantee riches. The world isn’t perfectly fair, and factors like timing, access, and luck can influence outcomes. But without effort, the chances drop to almost zero. Trying is the baseline requirement. It’s the entry ticket.
What’s often overlooked is that the process of trying changes you. You become more aware of opportunities. You start thinking differently about money, risk, and value. Even failed attempts teach lessons that move you closer to success.
There’s also a psychological shift. When you actively pursue wealth, you stop seeing it as something reserved for “other people.” You begin to see it as something possible, something you can build step by step.
The danger lies in misunderstanding the idea. Trying to get rich is not the same as chasing quick money. In fact, the obsession with shortcuts often leads people in the opposite direction. Sustainable wealth usually comes from patience, consistency, and smart decisions repeated over time.
So yes, the statement holds true, but with a caveat. Trying to get rich doesn’t guarantee success, but not trying almost guarantees failure.
In the end, wealth is rarely a coincidence. It is, more often than not, the result of intention backed by action.
